| To find the Lake Kinkaid Dam trail, travel west from Murphysboro on
RT 149 (RT 13 changes to RT 149 in Murphysboro). About five miles out of
Murphysboro, keep your eye open for spillway road to the right. This road
is easy to miss because it is at the bottom of a long, slightly curving hill,
and immediately after a bridge and guardrail (you know you missed it if you hit
the intersection of RT 3, turn back and find it about one mile back up RT 149).
Turn right at Spillway road and drive to the parking area in front of the gate.
Unload your bike and ride around the gate and up the gravel hill 1/4 mile to find
the singletrack trail start on the west edge of the dam. |
|
| The Buttermilk Hill trailhead is accessed off of Rt. 3. Travel through
Murphysboro on Rt 149 like you would for to the Kinkaid Dam Trail. Rt. 149
intersects Rt. 3, where you will take a Right (North) and drive about 2 miles.
Look for Buttermilk Hill Road to the Right (East). Turn Right on Buttermilk
Hill Rd. and drive for about a mile or so until you see Taylor Rd. to the right. Take Taylor
Rd. another ½ mile or so and look for the trailhead parking to the left. If all else fails, there
should be trailhead signs directing you along the way from Rt. 3.
Your first ¾ mile of the trail is a bombing downhill, so HAVE FUN! |
