I just started using this, apparently works with any gps phone. Current version is free and has been for a while.

It will creep out the technophobe that it tracks your location frame outer space (sorta), but if you already know your phone does that you might as well get some personal use out of it!

Maps your route, posts it to FB if you want. I'm using it to log my miles for the month to see what I'm actually getting in. If you ride with friends, your avg time will really suck since it doesn't pause when you do

I think if you follow this link you can get to all my workouts/rides (3 so far). If not my user name is Guder.
http://sportypal.com/Workouts/Details/597012?key=dd188636ca1616d8b22bf27f587f4b4d3efc05a3&ms=1

Had a killer ride at the gym tonight!

The local gym we went to had two Expresso interactive bikes (expresso.net). They have a video screen and interactive steering, you can choose from a bunch of courses, and the resistance changes to match the terrain. The graph along the bottom of the screen has power, cadence, HR, terrain, and averages. Your account follows you to any bike around the world, and you can log on to the website to track your rides.

I really regret not bringing my riding shoes, but I think I did alright with an average power output of 240 watts over 15 miles. First time I've had any kind of power measurement, and I have no idea what's good, but I was pumping sweat and felt great after. Awesome ride, I gots to git me one o these!!!!!

Redneck engineering at it's finest (worst?), or what do I have in common with a hooker? We both pedal our assets at work!

Punishment for 3 months of backsliding, but I gotta say I'm digging feeling alert at work!

If I still like it in a couple of weeks, I'll just add some nice paneling to the desk to make it clean.

Assuming it counts as one. Took from 4:30am-2:30pm, with 6:53:08 in the saddle. In between I stopped back in the house to cook b'fast and get the kids ready for soccer, sat with Brant and his bucket-headed-monster-baby before heading back to my end of town, and had a burger and blizzard at DQ.

Brant picked a nice loop for us, I'll have to use it again.

I wanted to make it down to C'dale after to shop some clip-in shoes... but a three-hour nap got in the way. Wuss.

Pic from the pre-breakfast session.

My training and racing

Well, I've done two sport races this year and the third one is fast approaching.

My training has been mainly road. Although I've been riding off road about every two weeks when I can.

Long rides on Saturdays and Sundays are the norm (2 to 4 hour rides); 25 to 50 miles per day. During the week I'm doing 25 to 10 mile rides (1 to 2 hour rides).

The 10 mile rides are usually recovery rides that keep my heart rate in zone 1 and 2.

The last few weeks I've started concentrating on hill intervals. Basically, beat the crap out of my legs and lungs until I crest a hill climb. The hills around my house are about 30 to 60 second sprints, so nothing long. I do, however, ride a 20 minute interval on one of the rides. I hammer for as long as I can on the loop for 20 minutes and then rest, recover, and head home.

The sad part is, the first sport race I did I came in 20 out of 25. The second race I did, I came in dead last.

Now, last year I was doing laps on these races that were sub one hour laps. This year I'm doing them about 1 hour 15 minute laps. I don't get it.

There are several factors:
1. I'm getting older and more conservative on the downhills...I know I was slow descending on the last race. It hurts to crash. It seems at every race I do I crash.
2. I switched to Kenda Karmas this year that are 2.0 tires versus the 2.35 tires I had last year.
3. I'm holding back because I don't want to blow up during the race.
4. Upgrading to sport is just going to take me a year to acclimate and get used to the second lap. Next year will be better and I'll be faster. (crossing my fingers)

I guess I'll find out at race three when I go all out at the start and also go faster on the downhill sections. I want to keep my tires cause I like the tubeless setup.

I can feel the butterflies already!
